2021 U.P. All-Star Classic

ST. IGNACE - Players representing schools from the eastern portion of the Upper Peninsula claimed top honors here Saturday (July 10) as the U.P. All-Star Classic returned after a year's absence due to COVID-19 concerns.
The East girls beat the West 87-80 in the 35th edition of the contest while the East boys upended the West 103-96.
In addition, East players swept MVP honors. Megan Crow of Gladstone earned the girls nod while Brandon Frazer of Escanaba was the boys' MVP.
The game is staged by the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame, with proceeds going to the group's scholarship fund that awards $500 over a four-year span to four honorees each year.
Crow, who has a basketball scholarship to Grand Valley State University, had a team-best 21 points. Crow was an All-U.P. Class A-B-C first-team selection in 2020 and 2021.
Jordan Haller of Sault Ste. Marie contributed 16 points for her East teammates while Lilly Alaspa of Sault added 11 points, Chesney Molina of Rudyard and Hallie Marshall of St. Ignace added 10 points.
The East girls led 40-39 at halftime, then broke the game open with a 31-20 third quarter burst. Crow had nine points in the third quarter.
Emma Anderson of Menominee, the 2020 Miss U.P. basketball awardee, had 13 of her game-high 35 points for the West girls. Anderson has a basketball scholarship to Wayne State University.
Frazer scored 17 points for the East boys, who were led by Logan Depew of Newberry with 21 points. Trenton Wood-Keshick, of four Bark River-Harris players on the East team, had 19 points, BR-H teammate Joey Stein had 16 points and BR-H's Nick Javurek added 13 points.
Ty Lotterman of Marquette led the West boys with 19 points and Lincoln Sager of Marquette hit 12 points.
Lotterman won the boys' 3-point shooting contest while Justin Nelson of West Iron County, who scored 40 points for the West, won the slam dunk event.
Andie Arsenault of Powers North Central won the girls free throw shooting contest while Marshall took the three-point event.
The all-star classic was put together by 2021 St. Ignace LsSalle graduate Jackson Ingalls with the help of his mother and father, St. Ignace coaches Dorene and Doug, Tony Haller of Sault Ste. Marie and Matt McCarthy of Iron Mountain.
