UPSHF 2022 inductees announced

ESCANABA - A trio of legendary veterans are among 10 new inductees into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame.

John Jewell of Laurium was the goalie when the University of Michigan won the Big Ten hockey championship in 1933-34. Sam Kokko of Sault Ste. Marie was a hockey pioneer and Vernon "Moose" Johnson of Crystal Falls played integrated baseball with Hall of Famers like Leroy "Satchel" Paige.

2021 U.P. All-Star Classic

ST. IGNACE - Players representing schools from the eastern portion of the Upper Peninsula claimed top honors here Saturday (July 10) as the U.P. All-Star Classic returned after a year's absence due to COVID-19 concerns.

The East girls beat the West 87-80 in the 35th edition of the contest while the East boys upended the West 103-96.

2019 U.P. All-Star Classic

NEWBERRY - There are a pair of back stories to most valuable player winners Matt Ojala of Calumet and Sydney Kivi of Marquette here Saturday (June 15, 2019) at the 34th annual U.P. All-Star Classic.

Ojala joined his mother and father as All-Star Classic MVP picks while Kivi won despite missing Friday's practice.

Ojala just missed a triple double as he helped North to a 107-93 victory over the South boys . In the girls opener, Kivi collected 23 points as the North girls posted a 72-48 victory.
