an all-state football player and U.P. Back of the Year, he was also an All-U.P. basketball player who played football for two years at Central Michigan on teams that were 17-1, earning NAIA all-state honors in 1956.  He coached football at Flint Southwestern and Gaylord high schools and has officiated more than 1,000 football and basketball games on the prep and collegiate level.  He is also a premier fastpitch softball hurler, winning more than 700 games in a 43-year career.
