an All-American cross-country runner at Purdue in 1939 and 1941. He set U.P. (4:32.2) and state (4:34.3) records in the mile run at Escanaba High in 1936, the state AAU mile record (4:13.2) in 1940, and was the Big Ten two mile champion in 1940.
