George Shomin - Class of 1983

(Escanaba)

an all-state football tackle at Escanaba High in 1941.  He played football at Notre Dame in 1942 and competed in track at Michigan State after serving in the Marines in WWII.  He was one of 16 finalists for the U.S.  Olympic team in the decathlon in 1948.
