Jack Mugford - Class of 2012

An all-around athlete from the home (Laurium) of three other UPSHF standouts, Jack Mugford excelled in baseball, basketball, bowling, golf, fastpitch softball and track. He played briefly in the minor leagues after signing a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, owned Calumet High School's long-jump mark (20-feet-6) for 33 years, averaged 39.7 in a men's golf league, helped Calumet snap Ishpeming's 23-game basketball winning streak in 1936, played intermediate hockey and independent basketball for several years, bowled a triplicate of 223, had a high series of 745 and averaged 195 over 45 years of bowling. "Hunk" Anderson, George Gipp and Lyman Frimodig are also from Laurium. He died in 1993.
