Tony Guzowski - Class of 2003

A two-sport, three-year letterman at the University of Iowa after serving in World War II with the U.S. Marines, Tony Guzowski then became a successful football coach in Iowa at Algona and Waterloo high schools. The 1941 Iron River High School graduate played on the USMC basketball team before joining the Hawkeyes, where he played football and basketball, serving as basketball co-captain in 1949. He received the Iowa Athletic Board Trophy for Excellence in Athletics and Scholarship, then turned down a tryout with the NFL's New York Giants because of a knee injury. He was a top amateur basketball player and was MVP of the Iowa Veteran's Tournament and led his team to the national tournament.
